Meet Keristen, one of our amazing Summer Math Tutors! She created engaging learning tools, led small groups, and inspired our students to grow in skill and confidence.

We are thrilled to recognize Keristen for her outstanding accomplishments as part of PicScience’s Math Boot Camp and Math Tournament program.

Keristen made a lasting impact on our younger students while gaining valuable skills and experiences that will serve her for years to come. Her dedication, creativity, and leadership stood out from the very start.

Throughout the summer, Keristen:

  • Designed customized learning resources, including worksheets that students used daily to practice and master foundational math.

  • Led small groups of advanced learners, guiding them through challenging concepts such as the relationship between multiplication, division, and fractions.

  • Strengthened her leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills by working directly with 3rd–5th graders, helping them build both competence and confidence.

  • Engaged in professional development, learning how to design individualized instruction and use innovative educational technology to pinpoint learning gaps.

Keristen’s work demonstrated maturity, responsibility, and a true passion for teaching. She learned how to adapt her communication style to meet the needs of diverse learners, a skill that will serve her well in future internships, apprenticeships, scholarship interviews, or any professional role.

This summer also provided Keristen with a valuable career development opportunity. She can proudly highlight how she:

  • Created original learning tools that supported dozens of younger students.

  • Practiced leadership and mentorship in a real-world educational setting.

These are highly transferable skills that employers, colleges, and scholarship committees look for in strong candidates. By leveraging this experience now, Keristen is building a resume and personal story that will set her apart in the future.

We are deeply proud of Keristen, of her contributions this summer and the way she represented both Carver 9 Academy and the Hawk Houston legacy community. This internship is just the beginning of what she will accomplish, and we look forward to seeing how she continues to grow as both a student and a leader.

Thank you, Keristen, for inspiring our students and embodying the spirit of PicScience.
